To be able to install the software, you must have administrative privileges or be able to validate as an administrator.
Before you install, apply the latest Windows updates to your computer and reboot the computer.
1. Close all applications currently running on your system—including other Adobe applications, Microsoft Office applications, and browsers.Adobe also recommends that you temporarily turn off virus protection during the installation process.

Windows:
- Insert the DVD in your drive, and follow the on-screen instructions. If the installer does not launch automatically, navigate to the Adobe CS5.5 folder at the root level on the DVD and double-click Set-up.exe to start the installation process.
- If you downloaded the software from the web, the installer will self-extract and launch automatically.If the installer does not launch automatically, open the folder, navigate to the Adobe CS5.5 folder, double-click Set-up.exe, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Mac:
- Insert the DVD in your drive, navigate to the application folder at the root level on your disk, double-click Install.app, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- If you downloaded the software from the web, open the folder, navigate to the application folder, double-click Install.app, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
If you are installing as an upgrade, the installer will check your system to find the valid upgrade product.If the installer cannot find the upgrade product, it will ask you to enter the serial number of the product being upgraded.You can also install the software as a trial, then enter your new and previous serial numbers in the serialization screen displayed when the software launches.
If you are installing CS5.5 Subscription Edition software, you will need to be connected to the Internet. The installer will prompt you if it detects that you are offline. An Adobe ID is required to purchase a subscription . If for some reason, you cannot connect to the Internet, you can install the trail version of the software and enter your subscription serial number and Adobe ID during installation. Known issues
- Installing on Mac using long folder names may result in a crash.
- On Mac, you cannot install Encore on the root drive. (#BG044824)
- When installing on Vista64, an incorrect default installation location appears. However, the application is installed in the correct location: c:program files(x86). (#BG064131)
- 'Total Size' displayed in the installer Options screen includes space occupied by installation components that do not appear in the component list. Therefore, the total size displayed may not equal the size of the listed components. (#BG059229)
- The installation may take between 20 minutes to over an hour depending on the product and the number of components chosen to be installed.(#BG050030)

Note: To install additional components or reinstall your software after the original installation, you will need access to the original installer (CD, DVD, or the download from the web). You cannot repair the original installation.
- Before you uninstall, close all applications currently running on your system—including other Adobe applications, Microsoft Office applications, and browsers.
- Do one of the following:
- In Windows Vista and Windows 7, open Control Panel and double-click Programs and Features. Select the product that you want to uninstall, click Uninstall/Change, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
- IMPORTANT: Mac OS has new uninstall functionality. Do not drag applications to the trash to uninstall them. To safely uninstall on Mac OS X, double-click the product installer in Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers or double-click the Uninstall alias located in the Application folder. Select Remove Components, then authenticate as an Administrator, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Uninstalling subscription software does not cancel or stop your subscription. To cancel your subscription, please go to Your Subscriptions at www.adobe.com/go/subscriptionedition.
Note: If you want to install the product on a different computer, you must first deactivate the software on your computer. To deactivate, choose Help > Deactivate.

Entering a serial number
Enter the serial number for the software you purchased in the serialization screen.The serialization screen will load the first time you launch the application.You can enter a serial number for the application itself or a serial number for any Creative Suite that contains the application. If the product you purchased is part of a Creative Suite, you can enter the serial number in any of the applications within the Creative Suite.Other applications installed as part of the same Creative Suite will recognize the new serial number when the applications are launched next time.
Only applications running as a trial will recognize the new serial number.If any application has already been serialized with a different serial number, it will continue to use that serial number until you remove the previous serial number by selecting Help > Deactivate and then selecting Deactivate Permanently on the Deactivate screen. The application will recognize the new serial number when you launch it next time.
The serial number you purchased is for the use of the software with a specific language setting, and will only be accepted by a product installed with the particular language setting.
If you purchased CS5.5 Subscription Edition, you will need to be connected to the Internet and will be required to enter an Adobe ID when prompted.
Volume licensing
Volume license customers cannot purchase from a trial directly. However, a volume licensing serial number can be used to serialize all Creative Suite applications, except the Acrobat X trial or retail versions that ship with Creative Suite.Acrobat X volume licensing software must be purchased from an authorized Adobe licensing center.Please contact your reseller or authorized Adobe licensing center to order a volume license. Adobe ID and CS Live
An Adobe ID is required to use this software as a trial and set up access to Adobe CS Live online services during your trial period.You must enter have an Adobe ID within seven days of launching your trial for the first time.If you do not provide an Adobe ID within the specified period, you cannot access the trial software after this period elapses.
You must accept the license agreement and warranty terms to use this product. See www.adobe.com/products/eulas for details. This product may automatically attempt to activate over the Internet. See www.adobe.com/activation for details.
Creating or entering an Adobe ID registers your software and sets up access to Adobe CS Live online services. To take advantage of your complimentary subscription of CS Live services and obtain up-to-date product information, training, newsletters, and invitations to Adobe events and seminars, you must register your product.
Note: If you purchased CS 5.5 Subscription Edition on the Adobe Store, your product is already registered and you already have access to Adobe CS Live online services.

The Creative Suite 5.5 installer installs fonts into a default system font directory. Many of these fonts are newer versions of fonts installed by Creative Suite 5. If the installer finds older versions of these fonts in the default system font directory, it will uninstall the older versions, and save them to a new directory. The default system font directory is:
Apple Macintosh: /Library/Fonts
Windows: :WindowsFonts
The older fonts will be saved in the new directory:
Apple Macintosh: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/SavedFonts/current
Windows: :Program FilesCommon FilesAdobeSavedFontscurrent
This new directory also contains a file named 'Read Me.html' that contains a list of the saved fonts, and the version numbers of the new and old font files.
You can re-install the older fonts by deleting the new font files from the default system font directory, and moving the old files back into that directory.

Blu-ray: Hiccup will be observed in the burnt disc if there are multiple video clips and a single audio clip for the entire duration of the timeline.
To avoid the hiccup, please create a single file from Premiere Pro and use it in Encore's timeline. (#1753153)
While burning a blu-ray with subtitle clips too close (less than five frames) you may get the error message 'Blu-ray Error: 'internal error 11 (software internal error: .PrivateGraphicsEncodersPGProcessor.cpp, line 236)', Code: '11', Note: 'subtitle set too close'
If you get this error message, choose Fix Gaps from the context menu that appears when you right-click a problematic subtitle clip. The Auto-fix Subtitle Frame Gaps feature automatically resizes one or both the flanking clips in a manner that the gap separating them is five frames. (#2398036)
Unsupported Blu-ray operations:
1. Title Menu and change Presentation mode doesn't have corresponding user operation in Blu-ray.
2. Blu-ray doesn't have root menu operation. So, for timeline the Menu button on remotewas used for Popup Menu user operation - this applies only to PS3.
3. The 'Play Timeline' disc user operation is not fully supported in Blu-ray.
4. The 'Stop' operation is not supported by PS3. (#2432546)
Blu-ray: Burning failed with device error 3 or Fatal error 6
These errors may be related with some corruption happening in sonic session files. To workaround this problem, delete AuthorScriptHDMVSessions folder inside the project folder (the project folder is at the same location as .ncor project file). (#1850922)
Blu-ray burning failed with error message 'Volume name must be no more than 30 characters long' while burning to blu-ray disc.
Adobe Cs5 Update
As per the limitation of UDF spec, volume name needs to be less than 30 bytes. This issue may impact J users more due to multibyte characters. Please use the voume name accordingly. (#2399482)
Multiple audio tracks are not supported for Flash export

Multipage menu is a blu-ray only feature. It will not work in DVD and Flash exports.
Building to blu-ray failed while checking the project if the project contains a .dts audio file.
To ensure a successful build, use a DTS file that conforms to Blu-ray audio specifications. This is because Encore does not support Blu-ray-specific encoding of external DTS files that you import into your project. (# 2746126)
Blu-ray burning failed with error 'file already exist'. code: 6', Note: ' Graphics buffer underflows' if we burn more than 36 mbps bitrate file with subtitles. (# 2564934)
This problem generally occurs when you try to burn a Blu-ray project after importing a file with a bitrate greater than 36 mbps into the project. To avoid this problem, ensure that the file you import has a bitratre less than 36.
Blu-ray Bit Budgeting: Burning failed with error code 25 not enough disc space while burning a blu ray project (single blu-ray legal asset) with 27.44 GB as dual layer image.
This problem happens only with Burn to image with a legal file (Encore project panel status shows 'Don't transcode') of size greater than 25 GB.(# 2749491) Is final cut pro adobe.
AE/PPro CS4 32bit -Encore CS5 stops responding if you attempt to open a legacy project that contains linked assets. (# 2603074)
To avoid this problem, remove all dynamically linked asset paths in legacy projects before opening them using Encore CS5.1.
Blu ray: 'Fatel error 6' while burning a blu ray disc with long project name. (# 2368212)
This problem generally occurs when your project name is more than 200 characters long. If you get this error message, reduce the length your project name to ensure that the number of characters is less than 200.
Encore fails to launch on a Fresh Windows 7 machine. Error displayed: 'The application has failed to start because its side by side configuration is incorrect'.
This problem generally occurs when you skip installing Windows updates on your computer. Whenever you encounter this problem, install the latest Windows updates, and then reboot the computer. Encore should start normally now. (# 2789485)
The mouse over position of the buttons changes when a menu is replaced with other menu and undo is done. Problem also occurs in the burnt discs.
Whenever you encounter this problem, replace the menu with a fresh copy of the original menu using the Replace command. (# 2774611)
Blu-ray burning failed with error message ' Blu-ray Error: 'File already exists', Code '6', Note: Video buffer underflows' while burning multi-page menus with more than 15 video buttons on a blu-ray disc.
Whenever you encounter this problem, reduce the number of buttons or menu pages in your project. For example, have four menu pages with a maximum of 16 video buttons. Alternatively, have five menu pages with a maximum of 15 video buttons. (# 2762929)
Disc information size exceeds 25 GB if an alternate asset is deleted from a long timeline.

Menu buttons not displayed after nine pages for Blu-ray disc multi-page still menus.
If your Blu-ray disc has a multi-page still menu, menu buttons may not appear at all when you play the Blu-ray disc in some players. Instead, the background of the menu buttons may be displayed. Alternatively, menu buttons may appear on the first few pages but disappear when you navigate further.
Whenever you encounter this problem, reduce the number of pages in the menu. Ensure that the menu does not have more than nine pages. (# 2421937)
